Elegant, Efficient, Effective - Aurora!
Soft-light luminaires are typically inefficient, bulky, and deep.
The Aurora offers a significant breakthrough by ‘leaking’ light
laterally into the secondary reflector system, thereby utilising
every lumen for a soft-glow effect. With a body depth of only
73mm, the Aurora is perfectly suitable for shallow ceiling
cavities, while still providing the ‘glowing’ effect so desired.
Exhaustive testing with reflector shapes and glare cut-off
angles optimise the comfort, glare control, and efficiency
mix.
A pendulum swing back towards office lighting with
extremely poor glare control concerned product designer
Trevor Murray. Says Murray “for 3 years now I have had
concern over gloomy offices that have been lit by low-glare
louvre fittings being replaced by soft light fittings that are
grossly inefficient, and with poor glare control.”
Enlightenz started on a 2 year development process,
including large amounts of design revision, testing,
modifications, and continual improvements, which has
resulted in the Enlightenz Aurora being completed and
ready for the New Zealand market. “The results exceed
even our own predictions” says Murray. Light output
ratios over 90% have been achieved, as well as a finished
product that adds a touch of aesthetic class to any fit-out.
With exceptional light output ratios (LOR) that exceed 90%,
the Aurora is an energy efficient luminaire, with a touch of
aesthetic class. Not only is the Aurora energy efficent, but also
environmentally efficient - careful selection and minimal use
of resources ensures a low embodied energy, and less carbon
dioxide emission.
With green building and New Zealand Greenstar becoming
more prevalent and prominent, the requirement for light
fittings to provide certain light levels, with good uniformity is
becoming the norm. Designing with the Aurora affords the
ability to achieve the full 7 points available to luminaires and
lighting design under the Design & Built 09 Tool.
The beautiful design of the luminaire ensures that it remains a
design feature, whether it is switched on or off. No more
‘boring old troffers’ : the Aurora is an elegant architectural
luminaire, adding to the office appeal.
The objective of office lighting : achieved to the finest detail
by the Enlightenz Aurora series.

Illuminating the Future!
The aim of any education facility : to create an
environment conducive to learning; promoting
concentration, attention, enjoyment, motivation, and a
desire to learn and improve oneself.
Since 1927 Takapuna Grammar School has had a reputation for
outstanding student achievement offering young people
academic programmes and the opportunity to learn in a culture
of excellence and high standards. As part of this dedication, the
school has recently undertaken numerous projects to ensure that
the environments within which pupils learn are lively, beneficial,
and an appropriate place to learn.
Enlightenz have played an integral part in the process, supplying
energy efficient luminaires that provide the correct amount of
illuminance, in the areas where it is required. Special
consideration for controlling glare was important, with the use of
VDU (Visual Display Unit) screens becoming more commonplace
within educational facilities. Enlightenz supplied luminaires from
the TRILUX range, who, through exhaustive testing and
research, are known worldwide for the quality of their light
fittings in regards to both aesthetic and performance excellence.
In the school’s art block, the use of a TRILUX E-Line rapidmounting
continuous line luminaire system provides a uniform
look throughout the area. E-Line as a system is extremely flexible,
with numerous varied modules available for accentuation
and general lighting. It offers individual solutions within a
universal system.

Society Secretary.
The IES NZ Chapter Management Committee (CMC) has recently elected
Kate Ramsbottom as the 2009/10 society secretary. The CMC is made up of
sub-committee members of varied backgrounds including technical, education,
events co-ordination, and other practical and relative proficiencies. These
members are highly respected professionals within the lighting industry, and
lend the society a great range of expertise and knowledge services.
The aim of the Illumination Engineering Society is the advancement of the
art and science of illumination, and the dissemination of knowledge to all
interested parties. Membership is diverse and widely varied, from engineers to
architects, educators to students, contractors, manufacturers, and designers.
Kate is qualified and experienced in designing ‘environments’ to ensure a
quailty design to meet and exceed both aesthetic and technical objectives.
Kate brings a tertiary qualified interior design background coupled with technical
lighting understanding, gained through the IES accredited Science and
Technology (Lighting) qualification, as well as experience in designing to both
Green Building and Australisia/New Zealand (ANZS)
standards. This ensures that Kate is trained and experienced in designing
‘spaces’, to ensure the right aesthetic look is achieved, as well as light level
requirements and energy efficiency objectives.
